REGISTRATIONS WILL OPEN TERM 2, 2024.

MAWA, in collaboration with The Mathematical Association of Victoria (MAV) and Digital Learning and Teaching Victoria (DLTV), is excited to offer the Victorian Coding Challenge (VCC).

  • Available to students in Years 5-10.
  • Target audience: high-ability students.

Have you got a passion for coding or are you curious to give it a go?

Do you have a creative yet logical mind and love to problem solve engaging, real-world problems?

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above, you are the student for this coding challenge!

The Victorian Coding Challenge is aimed to extend curious minds, nurture passions and support students in refining their coding skills.

THE VICTORIAN CODING CHALLENGE

Students will receive a virtual kit with a series of fun and engaging coding tasks. Students will participate in these tasks via a user-friendly online platform – accessible from school or home. The challenges will require that students apply coding and algorithmic thinking in order to solve interesting problems. These tasks can be conducted either at school or during school holidays, at the student’s pace. Scaffolding and coding resources will be provided in case students need some support along the way. Teachers will also have access to suggested solutions.

Schools can register as many students as they please, however, we ask that you keep in mind that the target audience is high ability students as challenges are set at a difficulty level that is above the year level categories.

Coding kits will be available from start of Term 2 and available to access until end of the year.

Registrations are open.

Teachers to register on behalf of their students.

Year level categories:

  • Years 5 & 6
  • Years 7 & 8
  • Years 9 & 10

Target audience: High-ability students.

COST: $12 per student

Teachers will need to register their students using the registration form.

Once completed and emailed to the MAWA Office, the school will be invoiced and the registrations processed, with access provided accordingly.
