  • Are you a High School teacher teaching Primary School maths? Teachers tasked with preparing students for OLNA often face the unique challenge of classes working at a level of understanding so low that it falls below their instructional knowledge or experience. Unfortunately, many teachers lack the primary pedagogical knowledge to bridge gaps and address misconceptions. However, this is no time for tricks and shortcuts!

OLNA Students are fast running out of chances to succeed. They need to make significant shifts in their understanding of basic mathematical concepts in minimal time and learn simple yet robust strategies to build their mathematical confidence and maximise their chance of success.  

In this workshop, you will learn key strategies to: 

  • Develop Multiplicative understanding of the Base 10 system using simple tools  

  • Use the CRA approach with fractions and percentages to anchor understanding 

  • Teach mental strategies calculation that support the development of positive disposition 

  • Simple routines for approaching word problems and real-world applications  

  • Examples will include measurement, elapsed time, rates & scale problems and more …
