Narelle Rice’s background is teaching mathematics from primary through to lower secondary. She has worked in teacher education for AISWA and ECU. Narelle is passionate about teaching students who don’t fit the middle, supporting teachers and developing whole school systems. Narelle is currently enjoying time working with Dr Paul Swan.

Bond Blocks is a whole school system made up of ready-to-go, sequenced resources to build a firm foundation in addition and subtraction. The Bond Blocks Core Intervention Kit is a resource of over 100 sequenced activities to comprehensively build understanding and fluency with basic addition and subtraction including application to related pre-algebra and word problems. This resource sequentially covers all addition and subtraction content descriptors from Years 1 to 3.
Description
The Bond Blocks Core Intervention Kit has two uses:
1) As part of a whole school approach to Mental Maths in Years 1 to 3.
2) As an Intervention Support System for students in Years 1-6 who count to add and subtract. The Bond Block Test is used for placement and monitoring.
Every activity is competed on one, reusable A3 board, by pairs/individuals, is modelled in a short video and has online teacher notes. Have a look at the activity notes and videos at bondblock.com
New to the system in 2022 are the Kindy and Pre-Primary Bond Block resources:
- Counting to 10 with Bond Blocks: Pre-Foundation
- Counting to 20 with Bond Blocks: Foundation
These two resources build the pre-requisite skills required for the Bond Blocks Core Intervention Kit.
