Classroom Corners - Ideas to consolidate learning - time

Paula McMahon

Paula has worked in high schools for more than twenty years. Since 2019 she has worked as the MAWA Executive Officer. Paula has a passion to ensure students demonstrate understanding rather than learning 'maths tricks or rules'.

I am primary trained and worked in both primary and secondary schools for more than 25 years. During this time, I have taken on several leadership roles included Head of Learning Area.

In 2019 I started as the Executive Officer at The Mathematical Association of Western Australia (MAWA). In this role I deliver professional learning to teachers, education assistants and parents. Since 2019 I have been a sessional lecturer at University Notre Dame Australia (Fremantle). Here I work with pre-service primary and secondary teachers. I have authored several books including “There’s a Problem to Solve”, Essential Mathematics Unit 3 and 4 and Maths for WA Book 1, 2 and 3.

I am passionate to ensure students demonstrate understanding rather than learning 'maths tricks or rules'.
