Welcome to The Mathematical Association of Western Australia (MAWA).

For more than 65 years, MAWA has connected and supported those who share a passion for mathematics education across Western Australia. Our vision remains clear: a WA community that understands and values mathematics. Our mission is to provide leadership that improves the quality of mathematics education for all Western Australians.

At its heart, MAWA is about people. We know that when people come together, sharing knowledge, experience and enthusiasm, mathematics becomes more accessible, engaging and meaningful. Whether it is teachers collaborating with colleagues, students challenging themselves through enrichment opportunities, families supporting learning at home, or partnerships across education, industry and the community, we are stronger when we learn and work together.

As President, I am continually inspired by the dedication and professionalism of our mathematics community. In schools across metropolitan, regional and remote Western Australia, I see educators creating opportunities for students to reason, problem solve, think critically and build confidence in their mathematical abilities. I also see families, carers and communities playing an essential role in nurturing positive attitudes toward learning and helping young people appreciate the value of mathematics in their everyday lives.

Everything we do is guided by our three strategic pillars: Memberships and Partnerships, Student Activities and Engagement, and Services and Resources. Together, these pillars enable us to support educators, inspire students and strengthen connections across the mathematics community. Through professional learning, student enrichment opportunities, advocacy and collaboration, MAWA continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of our members and the broader community.

We are equally committed to ensuring that all learners can experience success in mathematics. Guided by our Indigenous Commitment Statement, we seek to listen, learn and work in partnership to create culturally responsive mathematics education that values Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives, knowledge and aspirations.

Supported by our Board, Executive Officer, staff and volunteers, MAWA is focused on fostering a vibrant mathematics community and creating opportunities for learners, educators and families to engage with mathematics in ways that are relevant, inspiring and empowering.

Whether you are a long-standing member, a new educator, a parent or carer, a student, or a partner of the Association, I invite you to engage with our community. Together, we can continue to strengthen mathematics education and promote a future where mathematics is valued, understood and accessible to all Western Australians.
