Term 2 focus: Card Games
Presenter: John West

A recent survey of Victorian teachers revealed that a whopping 98% of them used games as a regular feature of their mathematics lessons. In addition to promoting the mathematical proficiencies of fluency and reasoning, games also have a role to play in promoting prosocial behaviours such as turn taking. In this workshop, Dr West will introduce you to some of his favourite card games for developing a range of mathematical skills.

While many card games can be played with an ordinary pack of playing cards, all participants in this workshop will also receive a pack of Dr Paul Swan’s Combo playing cards free with their registration. Combo is a fun and engaging game in its own right, but it has also been designed so that it can be easily adapted to suit the needs of students working at a range of levels.
