In this workshop you will discover how becoming a MAWA “Maths Active School” you can ensure that you are actively extending your students and teachers beyond the normal mathematics classroom. Schools deserve more recognition at a time when the school culture has become more competitive and parents are looking to “Myschool” and other metrics for comparing schools. The scheme is recognised by the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers and is already in operation in two other states.
With practical ideas to take back to your school, you will also join in on the festivities as John Curtin College celebrates pi Day (14th March). Learn how to put on your own whole school event and engage students and teachers across your school in the wonders of mathematics.
Schools can apply to be assessed for one of three “levels” – Bronze, Silver and Gold. These are based on criteria which MAWA has published and distributed to all Western Australian schools. The application process is free of charge – all a school needs to do is send in evidence that they have met the criteria during the previous school year and, if they have, MAWA will issue a certificate to the school which it can display on noticeboards, and also given an official copy of the Maths Active Logo relevant to the year; which the school can display on its website. We will also advertise that the school is a Maths Active School on our own website.
