Mathematics represents one of mankind’s greatest tools for understanding the complexities of the world around us. People have used mathematics to model complex systems such as the weather, the stock market, climate change and population growth with varying degrees of success. This workshop will examine the role of mathematics in modeling the world around us. Hands-on activities will allow students to explore examples from contemporary mathematics such as fractals and Chaos theory.
