The Mathematics Education Starter Kit and Activity Guide were designed to promote a hands-on approach to the teaching and learning of mathematics. In this session, we will explore some of the many mathematical concepts that can be enriched using manipulatives such as cards, dice, two-coloured counters, Tangrams, Pattern Blocks and Base 10 blocks*. John will demonstrate how manipulatives can be used to scaffold student learning about problem-solving strategies. He will also share some of his favourite hands-on Maths 300 lessons which provide opportunities for students to work like mathematicians. All participants will receive a free copy of the featured resource.
*While these resources are readily available in many schools, MAWA is able to supply individual, class or school sets at very competitive prices.
