Key Strategies for Student Success OLNA students are fast running out of chances to succeed. They need to make significant shifts in their understanding of basic mathematical concepts in minimal time and learn simple yet robust strategies to build their mathematical confidence and maximise their chance of success. If you’re looking for simple strategies that bridge big gaps – this one’s for you!
Description
Teachers tasked with preparing students for OLNA often face the challenge of classes working at a level of understanding so low that it falls outside their instructional knowledge or experience. Many secondary teachers lack the primary pedagogical knowledge necessary to address these misconceptions. However, this is no time for tricks and shortcuts!
In this 2 - Day workshop, you will learn to:
- Understand the importance of positive disposition and the science behind developing a mathematical mindset
- Teach mental calculation strategies that support fluency
- Apply the CRA approach to anchor student understanding
- Develop multiplicative thinking and consolidate understanding of the Base 10 system using simple tools
- Link decimals, fractions, ratios & percentages
- Use simple routines for approaching word problems and real-world contexts
- Thread these skills through the contexts of measurement, elapsed time, rates & scale problems and more
- Understand the how, when, what and why of OLNA testing
Optional extra:
- OLNA Virtual Support Sessions - A series of live feedback and discussion sessions to support teachers to implement instructional strategies and embed practice. (A link will be sent in your confirmation email once registered for either of the OLNA Workshops)
Registration entitles you to 25% discount on MAWA's NEW 'Ready, Set, OLNA' Resource package. Check it out in the Maths Store - Ready, Set, OLNA - The Maths Store (excludes student registrations)
