Paula McMahon & Sheila Griffin

Paula McMahon (MAWA)

Paula is primary trained and worked in both primary and secondary schools for more than 25 years. Since 2019 she has worked as the MAWA Executive Officer. Paula has a passion to ensure students demonstrate understanding rather than learning 'maths tricks or rules'. Paula works with pre-service teachers at University Notre Dame Fremantle lecturing in mathematics education.

Sheila Griffin (AISWA)

Sheila is the AISWA Numeracy Consultant who has a passion for making mathematics magnificent. She was awarded Outstanding Primary Maths Teacher of the Year from the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI). Sheila believes in improving the teaching of mathematics by supporting schools and teachers through targeted professional learning.

  • MAWA in partnership with AISWA are presenting this one-day workshop which will provide practical support and activities to build an engaging mathematics classroom that focuses on the big ideas of number. *Lunch will be provided on the day and attendees will receive some complimentary maths resources on the day.

Description

MAWA in partnership with AISWA are presenting this one-day workshop which will provide practical support and activities to build an engaging mathematics classroom that focuses on the big ideas of number. After morning tea, a targeted ECE and primary/secondary breakout session will be conducted. Workshops will include how to use manipulatives to support deep understanding and maths games that promote fluency. The workshop is ideal for graduates, early career teachers and anybody looking for some fresh ideas.

 

Lunch will be provided on the day and attendees will receive some complimentary maths resources on the day.
